Basketball great Shaquille O’Neal, a.k.a. DJ Diesel, will spin tunes at SMU’s Moody Coliseum as part of a tour bringing credit education to college campuses.
Credit One Bank’s Credit Tip Off Tour will begin at SMU Sept. 14 and feature a discussion about how to build healthy credit habits with O’Neal and Credit One Bank Chief Marketing Officer Michael Coleman moderated by sports content creator and host Jenna Bandy. The talk will be followed by a live DJ Diesel set. The event is free and open to the first 500 enrolled students who register. Students can register for tickets here.
“Credit education isn’t often taught in school, so we built this tour with Shaquille O’Neal to help close that gap and empower young people to make informed credit decisions,” said Michael Coleman, Chief Marketing Officer at Credit One Bank. “As the brand that believes in forward momentum, we’re meeting students where they are to kick-start their credit education in a memorable, engaging way and help set them up for a successful financial future.”
O’Neal, who owns property and is involved in philanthropy in North Texas, said he learned from his own credit mistakes early in his career and is now sharing those lessons with students as a Credit One Bank brand ambassador.
“I’m always learning, I never stop,” said O’Neal. “I learned credit the hard way. Nobody broke it down for me back then. Now I’ve got kids in college, kids right out of it, and I want them starting smarter than I did. That’s what the Credit One Bank Credit Tip Off Tour is about. And yeah, we’re still going to have fun.”
Following the stop at SMU, the tour will continue at Georgia State University Oct. 23, Fred’s Bar in Baton Rouge Nov. 6, and Florida Atlantic University on Nov. 9.
