Hillcrest’s football team opened the District 5-5A Division II football season in dominant fashion Thursday.

The Panthers improved to 3-0 on the season with a 45-0 win at home over Dallas Samuell.

Hillcrest has now posted shutouts in two of its three games and has outscored its opponents, 112-7.

On Friday, Hillcrest’s defense didn’t allow a completed pass and surrendered just 84 yards of offense as a whole while the Panthers posted 158 yards on the ground and 98 through the air.

Quarterback Kemen Fox threw touchdowns on two of his three completions, including a 69-yard scoring strike to Wilford Finley Jr.

On the ground, Jayden Harris racked up 76 yards and 10 carries with two scores.

Hillcrest will look to remain perfect in a showdown at 7 p.m. at South Oak Cliff.

The Golden Bears are the reigning 5A Division II champions, and while they have gotten off to an 0-2 start, South Oak Cliff is still ranked No. 4 in 5A in the area by The Dallas Morning News.

The Golden Bears opened with a 20-14 loss to Richmond Randle in a rematch of last year’s state championship games, before falling, 23-21, to powerhouse and reigning 6A Division I champion Galena Park North Shore.
