Chuck Cox and Chris McGathey have held the titles of sports editor and photography director, respectively, at People Newspapers since 2008, the same year I became the managing editor. Here are the awards they’ve won since then:
Chuck Cox
First place, sports section, Local Media Association, 2013
Second place, feature writing, Texas Press Association, 2013
First place, sports coverage, TPA, 2012
First place, feature writing, TPA, 2010
First place, sports writing, Suburban Newspapers of America, 2010
Chris McGathey
First place, sports photography, TPA, 2011
Third place, photojournalism, LMA, 2013
Third place, feature photography, TPA, 2013
Second place, sports photography, TPA, 2012
First place, sports photography, TPA, 2011
First place, feature photography, TPA, 2011
First place, feature photography, TPA, 2009
And let’s not forget that Park Cities People won the General Excellence award from TPA in 2013, 2011, and 2009, plus finished second and third in that category in 2010 and 2012, respectively. Chuck and Chris undeniably contributed to the general excellence of those newspapers.
Why do I bring all this up? Because, although you may continue to see their bylines in our pages, these two gentlemen are leaving our staff this week.

Where the Park Cities Stay Connected.
I know their work has impacted dozens — if not hundreds — of Park Cities people over the years, so I wanted to give those people an opportunity to say so in the comments below this post. If you’d rather say so in person, many of their colleagues and I will be toasting them at 5:30 on Monday at The Rustic in Uptown.
