Dallas ISD Considering Changing Elementary Start Times

Dallas ISD is considering changing elementary school start times, citing safety concerns, and is asking for feedback.

The district said elementary schools start at 7:45 a.m., which means some students get on buses at 6:15 a.m when it’s sometimes still dark.

“There have been some concerns about the safety of our youngest children being out that early in the dark,” the district said. “Since safety is our top priority, we are considering starting and ending the elementary school day slightly later next school year.”

A survey asks parents and district staff to choose between two bell schedule options – 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and 8:20 a.m. to 3:35 p.m.
