Greene Leads Scots at Southside Showdown

A handful of strong routines led the Highland Park boys to a third-place finish in the Southside Showdown gymnastics meet on Friday at Rockwall-Heath.

The Scots placed behind San Angelo Central and Rockwall as a team in their first optional meet of the season. HP’s Ryder Greene won on floor exercise and was third in the all-around standings, in addition to taking bronze on vault and parallel bars.

John Sartain won on vault and was second on pommel horse. William Benz tied for third on floor.

On the girls side, HP was eighth among 19 teams, led by a seventh-place routine by freshman Lila Hinze on uneven bars.

Next up, both HP teams will head to Round Rock for a dual meet on Feb. 1 followed by the annual HP Invite on Feb. 13 at the Hegi Family Gymnastics Facility.
