Film buffs of any generation can enjoy familiar favorites at a three-day film festival returning to Edgemere.
The second-annual Edgemere Film Fest, a partnership with the Dallas International Film Festival, will feature screenings of Miss Congeniality, 9 to 5, and Friday Night Lights, Oct. 22-24. The event is free.
Aside from the film screenings and Q&A’s with some cast members and film experts, attendees can take part in red carpet photo opportunities, music, refreshments, and more.
“We believe that aging is not an epilogue. It’s a vital and rich chapter worthy of artistic exploration and celebration,” said COO and President of Certus Living Jeff Amann. “The Edgemere Film Fest celebrates aging as a vibrant, relevant, and evolving experience — both on screen and in real life.”
Miss Congeniality opens the festival on Oct. 22. Following the screening, cast members Farah White and LeeAnne Locken (who also appeared in The Real Housewives of Dallas), will discuss their experiences making the film.
9 to 5, the workplace comedy starring Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin, and Jane Fonda, will be shown on Oct. 23. After the movie, Sean Griffin, an author and professor within SMU’s Meadows Division of Film and Media Arts, will talk about its cultural impact.
The film festival wraps on Oct. 24 with Friday Night Lights, the football drama based on Buzz Bissinger’s book about the Permian High Panthers in Odessa. Brad Leland, who played John Aubrey in the movie and Buddy Garrity in the Friday Night Lights TV show, will participate in a Q&A after the movie.
“The Performing Arts Center is an impressive setting for movies, concerts, lectures, and other events,” explained Edgemere Executive Director Teresa Bates. “And our vibrant lifestyle is rooted in a holistic approach to wellness. We know that curiosity, personal fulfillment, and connection are just as important to health and happiness as physical activity.”
